Privacy Policy

1. Data we collect

We collect the following data when you use CookCam:

• Your account: e-mail address, name and an encrypted password
• Photos you take or pick (fridge, pantry, freezer or food) while they are analysed
• Your subscription status and purchase receipts from Apple or Google
• Technical usage data: number of scans, AI usage, app version, device type and operating system
• App settings such as language, cooking style and disliked ingredients, saved on your device
• Feedback you send from the app, including a screenshot if you add one

2. Subscriptions

CookCam offers optional auto-renewable subscriptions for premium features.

• Subscriptions are available as monthly, quarterly or yearly plans
• Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
• Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current billing period
• You can manage or cancel your subscription in the settings of your Apple ID or Google Play account

3. How your photos are processed

• Your photos go to the CookCam server of Codemenschen GmbH and from there to Anthropic (Claude, USA), which recognises the food and writes the recipes
• The photos of the finished dishes are drawn by OpenAI (USA) from a short text description of the recipe. Your own photos are not sent to OpenAI
• Anthropic and OpenAI act as processors under Art. 28 GDPR and, under their terms for business customers, do not use this data to train their models
• Transfers to the USA are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the EU standard contractual clauses
• The CookCam server does not keep your photos after the analysis

4. Storage

• Your account, subscription and usage data are stored on the CookCam server in the EU (Hetzner, Finland)
• Your photos and your recipe history are stored on your device
• You can delete your recipe history in the app at any time
• You can delete your account and all data on the server in the app under Settings, "Delete account", or by writing to office@codemenschen.at

5. Other services

• Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging): anonymous usage statistics, crash reports and push notifications
• Wiredash: the feedback you send from the app and anonymous usage statistics
• Apple App Store and Google Play: purchases and their verification

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Correct inaccurate data
• Erase your data (right to be forgotten)
• Restrict processing
• Data portability
• Object to processing
• Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, in Austria the Datenschutzbehörde

7. Security

• All connections between app and server are encrypted (HTTPS)
• Passwords are stored only as a secure hash
• Data is passed on only to the services named above
• Regular security updates
